Additives for Protective & Marine Coatings
Protective and marine coatings are applied at high film thicknesses in order to provide exceptional durability and resistance to particularly aggressive environments. They are divided into protective coatings (industrial plant equipment, bridges, and other on-shore structures) and marine coatings (ships, submerged marine installations, and other off-shore constructions).

The main substrates are steel and concrete. BYK offers a wide range of additives assisting the paint technologist in formulating protective and marine coatings whether it be the primer, the base coat, top coat, or any other part of the coating system. BYK additives offer solutions for the particular demands on corrosion protection by alkyds, epoxy resins – solvent-borne, solvent-free or aqueous – polyurethanes, polyaspartics, chlorinated rubber, vinyl resins, TPA, fluorocarbons, and ethyl silicates.
Controlled flocculating wetting and dispersing additive for solvent-borne medium-polar to non-polar thick layer systems and primers to prevent fillers and inorganic pigments from settling and to gel bentonites. The additive may cause viscosity increase when used in the epoxy part due to its high amine value. ANTI-TERRA®-203 is not available in the North American market. Instead use ANTI-TERRA®-202, which uses different solvents.
