Paper Coating with Curtain Coater

Curtain coating is an old procedure, which found its way into paper finishing approximately a decade ago. Technical progress in machine speed, working width, and content of solid particles in ink has made the procedure an interesting option beyond its proven application with specialty papers. Multi-layer coatings can be realized in one process step as a contact-free contour coat.

Excellent knowledge of the chemical interactions in the ink is a prerequisite for the fine adjustment of curtain stability, rheology, and air voids of the system. At the same time, further processing is characterized by a variety of needs. In many cases we have been able to meet the demand for combining runability, quality, and further processing options.
