Processing

Paper processing consists of several very different process steps; however, they are all based on the materials science approach of joining and forming. Material joining such as coating, impregnating, or laminating is most affected by wetting. The individual processes may be significantly improved using additives. Especially in highly specialized applications, increasing penetration speed or creating defined technical surfaces offer interesting approaches for improving production and quality.

BYK’s knowledge of interface chemistry grows increasingly due to an exchange of information across the group regarding paper processing. The needed characteristic values of paper can be determined and thus the chemical properties can be improved when steps from paper manufacturing and paper processing are combined. These coordinated systems are easier to process and achieve significantly higher quality.
