Defoamers
Defoamers for paper coating require a defined level of incompatibility in order to have an effect. Equally important is the time period the process is active for, because the foam often only appears during ink recirculation.

Surface Additives
Dynamic wetting and surface tension play in important role during application of coating. The choice of additives also affects properties for the subsequent use of the paper. Trapping and color rendering of the printing methods depend on surface activity.

Rheology
Thixotropic flow behavior of the coating color has been researched extensively for standard applications. Curtain coating, however, requires different thickeners, which must become effective even at significantly lower shear rates.

Nanoparticles
High-quality material properties have also become cost-effective for paper due to new application methods, such as the multilayer curtain. Combinations of special nanoparticles create unique technical qualities.

Instruments
Portable instruments used in the coating industry are increasingly applied in the printing and paper processing industries all over the world as well. They thus complement traditional laboratory equipment in the paper industry with fast, production-related examinations.

Wax-based performance additives
Surface hydrophobizing can be used to regulate penetration speed and thus control printability. Wetting with printing ink may be adjusted to the different printing methods with additives. Performance additives also guarantee certain technical properties such as scratch resistance or porosity.

Wetting and dispersing
Wetting of specialty pigments may be regulated in different directions. Additives also improve wetting speed as well as compatibility of formulations intended to optimize application.
