Innovative line of additives
Along with wetting and dispersing additives, nanotechnology-based additives, rheology additives and surface additives, BYK’s product range also includes defoamers and air release agents, viscosity depressants, UV absorbers, and wax and process additives.
BYK’s continuously growing line of additives includes a large number of innovations. At the end of the 1990s, for example, BYK was the first additive manufacturer to begin using Controlled Polymerization Technology (CPT), which provides better control over the microstructure of additives. BYK has since developed several CPT-based wetting and dispersing additives that are in high demand all over the world.
BYK was also among the first companies to apply nanotechnology. Extremely small quantities of solid nanoparticles significantly improve the properties of coatings and plastics. The use of NANOBYK® products, for example, can not only increase the UV protection of wood coatings or the scratch-resistance of coatings, but can even create self-healing effects in coatings.
In 2008, BYK launched the first rheology-modified wax emulsion on the market. The rheology additive AQUATIX® 8421 improves effect pigment orientation in aqueous coating systems while reducing sedimentation at the same time. In 2009, BYK developed the innovation award-winning BYK®-3550. This innovative additive is based on the patented macromer technology and offers a combination of both acrylate and silicone properties.
Along with wetting and dispersing additives, nanotechnology-based additives, rheology additives and surface additives, BYK’s product range also includes defoamers and air release agents, viscosity depressants, UV absorbers, and wax and process additives.
And BYK also invests about 7,5% of its earnings in research and development – and that share is three times more than the industry average.
Moreover, one in five employees works in interdisciplinary teams that drive new developments forward while bundling their areas of technical expertise. BYK rewards outstanding development work with its annual in-house innovation award “BYK Advance”.
