Dynamic surface tension reduction
BYK®-DYNWET® 800 is an alcohol alkoxylate and provides excellent reduction of the dynamic surface tension and thus improves substrate wetting as well. Second recommendation: BYK®-3400.
Substrate and surface wetting and penetration
BYK®-346 and BYK®-333 are silicone surfactants and will improve the substrate wetting of water-based inks and overprint varnishes on various substrates. Silicone-free recommendations are BYK®-381 and BYK-DYNWET 800.
Substrate on aluminum oxide surface
For better substrate wetting of UV inks we suggest the usage of the following products:
Silicone-containing: BYK®-377, BYK®-UV 3510
Silicone-free: BYK®-381.
Defoamer UV inks
Silicone defoamers for UV ink application are BYK®-067 A and BYK®-088. Silicone-free recommendations are BYK®-057 and BYK®-1790.
Silicone-free defoamer for water-based systems
Defoaming in solvent based inks
Silicone defoamers for solvent-based inks are BYK®-066 N and BYK®-067 A. A silicone-free defoamer for this application is BYK®-052.
Wetting of aluminum with PVC
You can achieve better wetting of the aluminum pigment with DISPERBYK®-108 or DISPERBYK®-192.
Thickeners to prevent settling
BYK®-410 is our first recommendation for solvent based inks. Depending on the polarity it might be necessary to test a different additive. The dosage is approximately 0.1.-0.2% in most systems.
For water-based systems BYK®-420 is our first recommendation. The dosage is at a similar level to BYK®-410 in solvent-based systems.
Wax additive to improve the rub resistance of solvent-based inks
For solvent-based ink gravure inks we recommend CERAFLOUR® 991. CERACOL® 39 is our recommendation for solvent-based flexo inks.
