BYK-Gardner - worldwide partner of the automotive, paint and plastic industries for quality control of color, appearance and physical properties - is announcing new features in their intuitive data analysis software smart-chart.

In order to guarantee uniformity over time and be able to proactively take measures before color or appearance start to drift, process stability has to be controlled. Therefore, a representative number of readings have to be taken and large data sets need to be analyzed. The next generation of smart-chart software offers multiple new features that actually make statistical analysis a fun project.

Create your own reports in Excel
A pivot function allows customization of data arrangement in Excel. Parameters shown in columns and rows can be defined and their order can be changed e.g. first horizontal then vertical check zones. Filtering is done based on the parameters of the organizer and can be saved for later recall. Various statistical parameters (average, count, min, max…) can be extracted.

Manual input of additional parameters and scales
At time of data transfer additional information per check zone can be added such as film thickness or visual judgment. The parameters are shown in all data analysis reports and can also be printed and exported to Excel.

Data Analysis using multiple Databases
Data from multiple databases can be combined e.g. body and fascia data. At time of database selection the required databases just need to be highlighted and individual check zones can be compared in the Trend Comparison Report. They will be shown as differently colored clouds in the scatter graph.

New module for BYK-mac i: smart-inline
This new module is of interest for add-on-parts suppliers. It offers color quality control at the production line for BYK-mac i being directly connected with the computer. Sample identification can be either done by manual selection or a barcode reader. The results are automatically shown on a separate monitor. If the reading passes, the display will only show a green dot, if it fails, the last 20 readings are charted for the measurement angle with the largest deviation including tolerance limits.
