Flame retardant synergist BYK-MAX CT 4260 is a K 2019 Show highlight

BYK is making intensive preparations for the upcoming K 2019 trade show, which will take place from October 16 to-23 in Düsseldorf’s exhibition halls. At Booth E17 in Hall 5 the main focus will be on the new additive BYK-MAX CT 4260, which is an organophilic sheet silicate for use in thermoplastics such as polyamides.

BYK-MAX CT 4260 is the first innovative product from the new group of thermoplastic additives launched on the market under the trade name “BYK-MAX”.

It is especially suitable for use with halogen-free flame retardant thermoplastic compounds, since incorporating the additive improves not only the flame retardant properties but also the dropping behavior and crust formation. In return this new, highly specialized additive also enables the filler content, e.g. aluminum or magnesium hydroxide, to be reduced. This leads to a significant improvement in the process and physical properties and to a reduction in the overall weight.

As well as improving the flame retardant properties, the use of BYK-MAX CT 4260 can enhance barrier properties to oxygen, water vapor, and hydrocarbon.

In thermoplastics, such as polyamides (PAs), and bioplastics, such as polylactides (PLAs), the melt viscosity is also increased, enabling, for example, an improvement in dimensional stability during profile extrusion to be achieved.

In addition, other new, customized BYK additives – that fully utilize the potential of modern plastics and optimize their manufacture – for all kinds of different fields of application will be presented to the trade professionals at K 2019.

BYK is one of the world’s leading suppliers in the field of additives and measuring instruments. Additives are chemical substances which, when used in small quantities, improve product properties such as scratch resistance or surface gloss. Manufacturing processes are also optimized by the addition of additives.

The coatings, inks, and plastics industries are among the main consumers of BYK additives. Yet with the production of oil and gas, the manufacture of care products, the production of adhesives and sealants, and construction chemistry, too, BYK additives improve the product characteristics and production processes. Testing and measuring instruments from BYK can effectively evaluate the quality of color, gloss, and appearance as well as the physical properties of paint, plastic, and paper products and are an important part of quality control.

As a globally operating specialty chemicals company, BYK has production sites in Germany (Wesel, Kempen, Moosburg, Schkopau and Geretsried), in the Netherlands (Deventer, Njiverdal and Denekamp), in Great Britain (Widnes), in the US (Wallingford, Chester, Gonzales, Louisville and Earth City) and in China (Tongling).

Today the company employs more than 2,300 people worldwide and forms part of the ALTANA Group.
