BYK-1797 Silicone-containing defoamer for 100 % UV printing inks and OPV. Especially recommended for screen printing inks

Due to their rheological profile, and since they are particularly prone to foaming during application, screen printing inks are especially challenging for defoamers. BYK-1797 offers two advantages. It has strong defoaming properties even at extremely low dosages, but with a little more, leveling can also be greatly improved. Newtonian radiation-curable systems such as UV flexographic inks or substrate printing inks often require additives both to eliminate foam, which may be carried through an enclosed doctor blade and to provide substrate wetting.

DISPERBYK-2023 Solvent-borne wetting and dispersing additive for liquid printing inks based on TPU, TPA, NC, and vinyl copolymers

Modern solvent-borne printing inks are becoming increasingly polar. That is why it is particularly challenging to find suitable, compatible dispersing additives for NC-based printing inks. At the same time, PU and vinyl systems result in increased polarity as well as a faster printing process. BYK has responded to market demand and developed DISPERBYK-2023. This additive offers optimal dispersion and stabilization of organic pigments, as well as outstanding compatibility across a wide polarity range. DISPERBYK-2023 provides the formulation with virtually Newtonian flow behavior and itself contains a highly volatile solvent. The outstanding properties of DISPERBYK-2023 result in high application speeds with high levels of printing quality, combined with outstanding process reliability.

AQUACER 570  Ecolabel-compliant, modified sunflower wax emulsion for improving the surface properties of care products and polishes

Demand is constantly increasing for care products such as leather and car polishes based on renewable resources and Ecolabel products. In addition to the well-known beeswax and carnauba wax, sunflower wax also provides good surface protection.

The new AQUACER 570 is a sustainable and resource-friendly wax additive that is based on this sunflower wax and has been modified with carnauba wax to ensure optimum properties for care products for the most varied of coated and uncoated surfaces, and in polishes. Formulations containing AQUACER 570 have significantly improved hydrophobicity, oleophobicity and rain fastness. At the same time, AQUACER 570 maintains the good polishability of these care products and polishes.

BYK-1759 Silicone-free, polymer-based defoamer for solvent-borne printing inks and laminating adhesives

BYK-1759 is an aromatic-, mineral oil- and silicone-free defoamer based on polymers for flexographic and gravure printing inks.
It is equally suitable for laminating adhesives. The additive is highly effective even at low dosage and has no impact on intercoat adhesion. Furthermore, flow properties of the system can be positively influenced.

BYKJET-9171   Solvent-free wetting and dispersing additive for aqueous inkjet inks

The new BYKJET-9171 expands BYK’s range of aqueous inkjet inks. It is particularly suitable for stabilizing organic pigments and disperse dyes, although it can also be used for inorganic pigments and carbon blacks. Produced on the basis of controlled polymerization technology, BYKJET-9171 is characterized by a very narrow molecular weight distribution that makes it possible to manufacture perfectly dispersed and long-term-stable pigment dispersions. The highly deflocculating effect of BYKJET-9171 causes a significant increase in gloss, optical density, transparency or hiding power, and a strong reduction in mill base viscosity, which enables a higher pigment content in pigment concentrates. BYKJET-9171 is especially recommended for resin-free grinds.

26.09.2017 - BYKANOL-A

BYKANOL-A    Anti-skinning agent and anti-gelling additive for solvent-borne systems with additional batch repair properties

BYKANOL-N will be cancelled by the end of 2017 due to environmental and product safety aspects. BYK has responded to this situation and has developed an alternative for oxidative drying systems with a better regulatory profile: BYKANOL-A. The additive efficiently prevents a layer of skin from forming by creating a highly volatile complex with the added siccative, which inhibits premature drying. When applying the system, the siccative/active substance complex is destroyed and the highly volatile BYKANOL-A evaporates with the solvents. The released siccative can deploy its catalytic effect and ensures fast and comprehensive drying of the coating film. BYKANOL-A efficiently suppresses the gelling of the coating in the coating matrix, e.g. with alkaline pigments. The new formulation is also free from aromatic solvents.

SCONA TPPP 1616 FA    Modifier for polypropylene/polystyrene blends to improve polystyrene distribution

SCONA TPPP 1616 FA is a modifier based on a polypropylene homopolymer functionalized with polystyrene. Using the additive in polypropylene/polystyrene blends with polypropylene as the matrix phase improves polystyrene distribution in the polypropylene. It can be used both in blends with standard polystyrene (GPPS) and with high impact polystyrene (HIPS).

BYK-3565    Acrylate Surface Additive to Increase Surface Energy, with Anti-cratering Properties

The requirements on modern coating systems are constantly increasing. In many systems, properties such as leveling, substrate wetting, and anti-cratering can still be achieved with traditional silicone or acrylate surface additives. However, if good recoatability or adhesion is required at the same time, these products reach their limits.

The new BYK-3565 is the logical further development of BYK's macromer-modified acrylate additives and can meet these complex requirements. Its special modification means that BYK-3565 orientates itself at the coating surface and increases the surface energy of the dried coating film. The recoatability or adhesion of subsequent coatings are improved at the same time. BYK-3565 is recommended for use in aqueous, solvent-borne, and 100 % systems, with an extra anti-cratering effect mainly in the aqueous coatings.

DISPERBYK-2080 and DISPERBYK-2081    Wetting and Dispersing Additives for Aqueous Systems with No Negative Impact on Water, Corrosion and Stain Resistance

Wetting and dispersing additives for aqueous coating systems always possess a certain hydrophilic character. Essentially, they are needed to wet, disperse and stabilize pigments and fillers. However, the hydrophilic structure of the additives also continues to have an impact in the cured coating film. This may cause key film properties such as water, corrosion and stain resistance to be impaired. DISPERBYK-2080 and DISPERBYK-2081 are new additives that are particularly suited to aqueous anti-corrosive primers, direct to metal systems, and aqueous wood and furniture coatings.
They offer significant viscosity reduction and a good deflocculation, especially of inorganic pigments, fillers and anti-corrosive pigments, without impairing the coatings´ resistance.

OPTIFLO-H 7625 VF - VOC-, APEO- and Tin-free Associative Thickener (HEUR) for Aqueous Systems to Generate Highly Pseudoplastic Flow Behavior

The associative rheology additive OPTIFLO-H 7625 VF causes a sharp increase in viscosity in the low shear range as well as highly pseudoplastic flow behavior. Consequently, anti-sagging and anti-settling properties are significantly improved. Customer processability compared with the established BYK-425 could also be substantially improved. OPTIFLO-H 7625 VF is extremely suitable for architectural, general industrial, protective, wood and furniture coatings as well as adhesives.

Radiation curing is a technology that represents a particular challenge – from careful raw material selection to perfectly tailored application and curing equipment. In addition, it is common to use treated or untreated silica-based matting agents for the matting of coatings. However, high quantities of silica are required, which causes a significant increase in viscosity. To both satisfy the technical requirements and achieve an optimum application viscosity, BYK has developed the new additives DISPERBYK-2158 and DISPERBYK-2159. Their special structural design enables perfect interaction both with treated and untreated silica-based matting agents to achieve consistently deep-matt coatings with optimum, slightly thixotrope viscosity profiles. DISPERBYK-2158 and DISPERBYK-2159 are compatible with all common monomers and oligomers.

BYK-1781 Silicone Defoamer for Aqueous Systems to Eliminate Micro-foam Generated During Application

A well balanced-defoamer, the interaction of compatibility and efficiency is the guarantor for an easy application and a high quality of the final coating. The new BYK-1781 includes all these features. The balanced silicone/polyether ratio leads to an excellent compatibility in a variety of aqueous coating systems e.g. pure acrylics, UV-systems and 2-pack PU-systems without a negative impact on clarity, haze and cratering. In addition the high efficiency of BYK-1781 makes it extremely suitable for difficult application methods such as HVLP, Airless and Airmix to eliminate the micro-foam that occurs in the coating film. The additive can be used in clear coats as well as pigmented systems and is solvent-free.

BYK-3760 - Highly Effective Silicone Additive for Aqueous, Solvent-borne, and UV-curing Systems

BYK-3760 is a unique, highly active polyether-modified polysiloxane which reduces the surface tension significantly. As a result of its low tendency to stabilize foam, BYK-3760 can also be used in applications that involve high shear forces. The additive remains fully effective, even at a very low dosage. At the same time, its outstanding compatibility means that it can be used in a wide variety of resin systems. BYK-3760 runs through an additional production step in which virtually all cyclic siloxanes are removed (D4–D6). As a result, BYK-3760 corresponds to the latest requirements of common ecolabels such as EU Ecolabel, Nordic Swan, Blauer Engel, as well as the specifications for use in food contact applications. BYK-3760 has 100% active substance and is recommended for general industrial, wood and furniture, can, architectural, and protective coatings as well as printing inks.

DISPERBYK-2062 - Wetting and Dispersing Additive for Water-borne Universal Colorants

After DISPERBYK-2060 and DISPERBYK-2061 have been successfully introduced into the market, BYK complement its offer for universal colorants by launching DISPERBYK-2062 with regard to improve the compatibility of inorganic pigment concentrates in solvent-borne systems. The additive is VOC- and alkylphenol-free and complies with all regulations and quality labels in the architectural paints sector.

OPTIFLO-T 1010 - Liquid VOC-free Rheology Control Additive to Adjust High Shear Viscosity in Water-borne Coatings

Modern coating systems and their resins require specific, tailor-made additives that provide the optimum performance but at the same time an environmentally sound solution. OPTIFLO-T 1010 provides enhanced syneresis, spatter resistance and shows a significant improvement in brushability.
The additive is VOC-free, APEO-free and Tin-free.

03.01.2017 - CERATIX 8561, CERATIX 8563 and CERATIX 8566

CERATIX 8561, CERATIX 8563 and CERATIX 8566 - NMP-free Wax Additives for Excellent Effect Pigment Orientation in Solvent-borne Coatings

The proven wax additives CERATIX 8461, CERATIX 8463 and CERATIX 8466 contain a small quantity (< 0.5 %) of N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP). However, there are increasing demands to manufacture effect pigment coatings that are entirely free from NMP. To meet these market requirements, BYK has optimized the manufacture of these CERATIX wax additives so that it can produce NMP-free products. The new NMP-free wax additives CERATIX 8561, CERATIX 8563 and CERATIX 8566 are an alternative to the established products and offer an equivalent substitute. They are recommended for usage in automotive, general industrial, and leather coatings (CERATIX 8561).

CERAFLOUR 955, CERAFLOUR 958 and CERAFLOUR 959 - wax additives for fine uniform textures in powder coatings

CERAFLOUR 955 is a pure PTFE (Polytetrafluorethylene)-type which is highly effective even at low dosage providing intense texture effects along with deep mat finishes. CERAFLOUR 958 and CERAFLOUR 959 are both PTFE-modified PE (polyethylene) waxes that allow for a wide range of texture and matting levels from semi- to deep-mat finishes. All three products have an optimal price-performance ratio and hence add great economic benefit to powder coating formulations.
