13.02.2018 - BYK-1166

BYK-1166 Wetting additive for PVC plastisols to reduce the viscosity in the low shear range

The new BYK-1166 is the latest development within the BYK-1160 series. All of these products work very effectively to reduce the low shear viscosity of PVC plastisols based on pseudo-plastic PVC grades. Occasionally, in PVC plastisols containing azodicarbonamide (AZO) as a blowing agent, the additives of the BYK-1160 family can cause yellowing in the final product. This is a limiting factor – especially in the wallcovering industry. BYK has therefore developed BYK-1166 which has been evaluated within the European PVC foam resins most widely used in the industry. The latest member of the BYK-1160 family has low volatility and can be used in a wide range of PVC applications (except low fogging for automotive). It is especially recommended for chemically foamed PVC plastisols where white index and surface properties are of importance. BYK-1166 shows the best heat stability of all products within the BYK-1160 family.

06.02.2018 - BYK-C 8013

BYK-C 8013 es el primer agente de acoplamiento a nivel mundial para fibras de carbono. Se usa en resinas de viniléster y poliéster insaturado con fibras de carbono para la fabricación de composites. Su uso aumenta considerablemente la fuerza transversal a la fibra y proporciona una mayor libertad de diseño. La mejora de la unión de la fibra con la matriz aumenta tanto la resistencia a la tracción como a la flexión del composite. La composición química del aditivo hace posible el enlace con las fibras y con la resina simultáneamente. Esta característica permite hacer cambios en el diseño y fabricar piezas más resistentes. BYK-C 8013 presenta un aumento considerable de las propiedades mecánicas de hasta un 70 %, especialmente en procesos de curado en caliente como SMC/BMC, pultrusión o RTM. Este aditivo reactivo puede añadirse al ensimaje durante la fabricación de las fibras o a la resina poco antes de su procesado.
BYK-C 8013 puede aplicarse sobre la fibra, por ejemplo por pulverización, como un "segundo ensimaje” sin necesidad de tener que eliminar previamente el primer ensimaje. BYK-C 8013 se recomienda para todo tipo de fibras de carbono.

09.01.2018 - DISPERBYK-2157

DISPERBYK-2157 VOC- and solvent-free wetting and dispersing additive for non-polar systems

DISPERBYK-2157 is a VOC- and solvent-free wetting and dispersing additive for non-polar solvent-borne and solvent-free inkjet inks, printing inks, protective and architectural coatings as well as PVC plastisols. The additive is excellent compatible with solvents, like paraffins, isoparaffins, vegetable oils, mineral oils or plasticizers. DISPERBYK-2157 is recommended for all kinds of pigments and greatly improves optical properties such a color strength, transparency and gloss. In inks and coatings applications DISPERBYK-2157 provides a strong reduction of the mill base viscosity and a good stability. In PVC applications the additive shows a strong decrease of batch and final plastisol viscosity and moreover offers an excellent heat stability.

BYK-1797 Silicone-containing defoamer for 100 % UV printing inks and OPV. Especially recommended for screen printing inks

Due to their rheological profile, and since they are particularly prone to foaming during application, screen printing inks are especially challenging for defoamers. BYK-1797 offers two advantages. It has strong defoaming properties even at extremely low dosages, but with a little more, leveling can also be greatly improved. Newtonian radiation-curable systems such as UV flexographic inks or substrate printing inks often require additives both to eliminate foam, which may be carried through an enclosed doctor blade and to provide substrate wetting.

DISPERBYK-2023 Solvent-borne wetting and dispersing additive for liquid printing inks based on TPU, TPA, NC, and vinyl copolymers

Modern solvent-borne printing inks are becoming increasingly polar. That is why it is particularly challenging to find suitable, compatible dispersing additives for NC-based printing inks. At the same time, PU and vinyl systems result in increased polarity as well as a faster printing process. BYK has responded to market demand and developed DISPERBYK-2023. This additive offers optimal dispersion and stabilization of organic pigments, as well as outstanding compatibility across a wide polarity range. DISPERBYK-2023 provides the formulation with virtually Newtonian flow behavior and itself contains a highly volatile solvent. The outstanding properties of DISPERBYK-2023 result in high application speeds with high levels of printing quality, combined with outstanding process reliability.
