BYK offers customers a broad portfolio of additives with a bio-based carbon content. We indicate this on the specific product detail page.
In addition, the bio-based carbon content can also be searched for using a filter:
When calculating the percentage share, BYK takes into account the definition of "bio-based" from ASTM D6866 - a standard measurement method for determining the bio-based carbon content - in addition to the specifications of the European Commission. This states that the bio-based content only refers to the organic carbon. This means that "neutral" substances that do not contain carbon - such as water, minerals and silicon dioxide - are not included in the measurement. In addition, substances that contain inorganic carbon are also excluded. The measured value is therefore to be understood as the amount of bio-based organic carbon in relation to the total organic carbon (total organic carbon content (TOC)).
Our values are measured according to this method - ASTM D6866 - using the radiocarbon method and can be documented with certificates.
A list of our bio-based additives (>= 50% bio-based carbon content) and information on the measurement method can be found in our Product Guide Additives from bio-based materials.
