PFAS-free process additives facilitate faster production speeds and shorter downtimes

Wesel, July 08, 2025BYK Additives will be presenting a new generation of process aids at this year’s K 2025 in Düsseldorf. Not only is the new polymer processing aid (PPA) BYK-MAX P 4110 PFAS-free; at the same time, it also facilitates faster production speed, prevents melt fracture, and reduces build-up on dies, resulting in reduced cleaning efforts and, consequently, shorter downtimes for customers. It was developed for use in polyolefins with the aim of optimizing the production of films and fibers, as well as other extrusion applications.

Until now, it was mostly the custom to deploy processing aids containing fluorine, since these ensured good throughput and flawless finished parts when processing polyolefins. BYK Additives has invested a great deal of research expenditure and converted its complete product portfolio to PFAS-free solutions. BYK-MAX P 4110 customers benefit to the extent that they can now already replace processing aids containing fluorine (PPA) in their formulations without having to do without the accustomed advantages. Adapting the systems to this more environmentally friendly, PFAS-free process additive is technically straightforward, and no substantial process adjustment is required.

Learn in greater detail about BYK-MAX P 4110 and further high-performance plastics additives at “K 2025”, the World’s No. 1 Trade Fair for Plastics, from October 8 to 15, 2025 in Düsseldorf, Germany, and visit the BYK stand in hall 5, booth E17.

About BYK

BYK is a leading global supplier of specialty chemicals. The company’s innovative additives and differentiated solutions optimize product and material properties as well as production and application processes. Among other things, BYK additives improve the scratch resistance and gloss of surfaces, the mechanical strength or the flow behavior of materials, and properties such as light resistance and flame retardancy.

BYK has an extensive product portfolio with which it supports customers in the plastics industry. Plastics processors, compounders, formulators, and OEMs make use of the vast selection of high-performance additives for processing advanced composites, PVC plastisols, and a wide range of thermoplastic materials. Amongst others, these include lightweight materials for the automotive industry, reinforced plastics for wind turbines, and weather-resistant plastics for outdoor applications such as facades, stadium seating, outdoor furniture, and greenhouses. Besides this, BYK additives also promote greater comfort when, for example, they optimize PVC flooring or ensure flame retardancy, scratch resistance, and odor reduction. Together, the world’s largest network of application laboratories, its technical service, and its customer focus form the basis for BYK’s profound insights into market demands and trends.

BYK has a global network of branches and operates production sites in Germany (Wesel, Kempen, Schkopau, Moosburg, Geretsried), the Netherlands (Deventer, Denekamp, Nijverdal), and the UK (Widnes), in the USA (Wallingford, Chester, Columbia, Earth City, Gonzales, Louisville, Pittsford) and in China (Shanghai, Tongling). The company is part of the ALTANA Group and employs more than 2,600 people worldwide.
